Mudfooted.com!

page allposts AboutMudfooted.com is weblog about our wonderful and fascinating natural world. It was founded in December 2009 with the aim to get more people to know and appreciate our natural world and the unique species that inhabit it. Since this time over 150,000 people have enjoyed over 50 posts that range from the unique adaptation of fish with transparent heads, the amazing discovery of goats climbing almost vertical dams to the bizarre reproductive behaviour of angler fish!

By writing articles in which interesting and unique species and their behaviour are featured, displaying the most amazing nature videos and photography, making scientific findings understandable for lay people, and sharing my personal explorations I hope people will deepen their interest for nature, will contribute more to the conservation, and will better understand the importance of science!

page biotechniques About Mudfooted was recently reviewed in the scientific journal BioTechniques (read the article here)!
page dailymail About The article about goats climbing almost vertical dams was featured in the Daily mail (UK) (read the article here).

Why ‘mudfooted’?

For me ‘mudfooted’ stands for exploring; getting muddy feet. Since I love being outside and exploring nature and its underlying mechanisms, and because this website where I express this, I found ‘mudfooted’ the perfect name.

Who am I?

profilepic AboutI am Jolle Jolles, a curious naturalist with a great fascination for our natural world. Next to working as a zoologist at the University of Cambridge investigating the intelligence and social life of wild jackdaws I have started making short nature documentaries and own my own webdesign company Mudfooted Design!

page jolleoutside AboutI grew up in the Netherlands where I from a young age spent as much time as possible exploring the parks and countryside, building huts, and collecting everything I found. As soon as I finished high school, my fascination for nature intensified when I spent a year abroad, travelling through Australia, New Zealand and Thailand where I decided to study Biology. Three years later I completed my degree Cum laude and spent 6 months working as a field assistant in Borneo and South Africa with Orang-Utans, Gibbons and Baboon before starting with a masters Neuroscience & Cognition.

In October 2010 I finished my masters Cum laude having specialised on behavioural neuroscience and started working as a research assistant at the University of Cambridge to investigate intelligence and culture in wild jackdaws. In my spare time I like being active outside – climbing, hiking, cycling, birdwatching – as well as reading, yoga, and off course writing articles for Mudfooted!
